A Message From Chairman of the Board Jeff Gee
Congratulations to the Class of 2008!
On June 6, we graduated our largest class ever with 41 individuals completing their classes for the year. Congratulations to our new alums. Our graduates spent time learning about our community, meeting civic and community leaders, building networks that will last the rest of their life, and gained important insights and opportunities in making our community a better place to live and work. Thank you to our graduates for taking the time to learn about our community and thank you to their employers for investing in their employees.
Our keynote speaker for graduation was Rich Gordon, Supervisor for the County of San Mateo. Rich shared with the graduating class his key characteristics of leadership: a passion and desire for learning, a commitment to values and vision, and the ability to love.
Going Above and Beyond
A few weeks ago, the Redwood City Fire Department responded to a fire on Harrison Street in Redwood City. The residents of the apartment complex were temporarily displaced, and the fire department dispatched several engines. Our police department was present, as well as others to assist. The staff at Whole Foods went above and beyond by helping out with food and water to assist all of those affected and our first responders. Thanks to everyone at Whole Foods for going above and beyond!
Wells Fargo Benefit Golf Tournament
On May 12, over 130 golfers showed up at Stanford Golf Course for our Annual Wells Fargo Benefit Golf Tournament benefitting Kainos. The weather was fabulous, the golfing was great, the food and wine fantastic, and the company was superb. The best part though is that over $38,000 was raised to benefit Kainos. Thank you to our flagship sponsor, Wells Fargo, and to our many other sponsors for making our annual benefit golf tournament a success.
Community Guide & Membership Directory
Fresh off the press is our 2008 Community Guide and Membership Directory. Stop by the Chamber office and pick up a copy, and remember to “Shop Chamber!”
As we enter our summer break, remember that the Chamber is not far away. We will continue with our monthly “Mixers”, Chamber members will be present for Redwood City’s Friday concerts on the plaza, and the next edition of Good Morning Redwood City will be August 7. If you are traveling during this summer, be safe. I look forward to seeing you at a Chamber event soon!
